Donald Trump attempts to ban the use of TikTok in the US – here is why

The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has stated that he wants to ban the current most widely used social media platform TikTok from the US.

According to a post sighted on twitter by UberFacts, Donal Trump is determined to ban Tiktok as soon as possible.

American Security agencies have declared that the social media app is a security risk and could be used by the Chinese government to spy on the US.

TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based internet technology company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming with an estimated 1 billion users across the globe.

If the social media app is banned the US companies would have to divest from its Chinese parent company ByteDance.

Trump’s decision comes after the Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS) looked into certain proceedings and deals that affect the United State’s national security.

The social media app refused to comment on the forced divestment of its US interests and only said, “We are confident in the long-term success of TikTok. “Hundreds of millions of people come to TikTok for entertainment and connection, including our community of creators and artists who are building livelihoods from the platform.”

Regardless, Donald Trump plans on shutting TikTok down in the United States.
